It all started yesterday, Monday the 20th April. Willy Paul’s Mother called us and I was the one who picked that call. Willy Paul’s mother had requested to speak to Ghafla! urgently.
I marshaled our cameraman and a colleague and rushed to Mathare, Area 3. That’s where Willy’s mother resides. She was there by the gate when we arrived, she struggled to put a smile the moment we introduced ourselves. Dressed in a kitenge dress and covering her head with an African kitamba,Mrs. Salome’s face bore some resemblance to that one of her famous son.
She ushered us in to her house and made us feel at home. Even before we set our camera to start recording every second of the interview, she began opening up to us. The voice of a broken-hearted mother…
